Head of Section - Hon. Maria Antónia de Almeida Santos
The Portugal Section totals 55 members is led by Hon. Maria Antónia de Almeida Santos. She is a Portuguese politician, member of the Socialist Party and currently a Member of parliament (MP). She is a lawyer by profession and has extensive experience regarding drug abuse, having served as President of the Commission for Drug Addiction in Lisbon Deterrence from June 2001 to January 2005 and having publsihed an article on the issue:"Contributions to an analysis of the experience of drug use decriminalized." 2004. Book Launch: "Porque prevaleceu a paz: Moçambicanos respondem" by Lucia van den Bergh, 4 October, Lisbon, Portugal.


On 4 October 2011 at the ISCTE release center for African Studies, Lisbon, the author Lucia van den Bergh released her book: "Why Peace Worked: Mozambicans Look Back" in its Portuguese variant "Porque prevaleceu a paz: Moçambicanos respondem". The book launch was organized in cooperation with the Portuguese Section of AWEPA and it covered the main aspects of the book as well as the experiences of Ms. van den Bergh while living in Mozambique.
