Pan African Parliament Women’s Caucus:
The purpose of the progamme is to increase the effectiveness of debates and actions by the PAP Women’s Caucus on specific issues which affect women, such as harmful cultural practices. The programme also works to strengthen relationships between the PAP Women’s Caucus and sub-regional and national Women’s Caucuses in Africa.
The second political objective of the PAP is to ‘promote, protect and defend the principles of human rights, gender parity, disability equality, democracy, peace and security in Africa’. In line with this it has been the aim of leading women within the PAP, including its former President, Ambassador Dr. Gertrude Mongella to initiate a PAP Women’s Caucus.
The aims of this body include: enhancing the participation of women in the political, economic and social life both at the national and continental levels; reinforcing the role of women in member parliaments and in international organisations; promoting the exchange of experiences, and contributing to the defence of Human Rights, especially those of young girls, children and mothers.
