''It is possible to think of the end of AIDS. With the right mix of prevention and treatment the epidemic can be beaten. The challenge is to ensure that we don’t take our eye off the ball. The reason this is a challenge is because, unlike other diseases, people living with AIDS need treatment for the rest of their lives. In addition every year new cohorts of people become sexually active. They need prevention messages and technologies for as long as they are at risk. Beating AIDS requires an international compact involving good will, commitment and resources''.
